What Do You Need?

Ensure your espresso machine is properly preheated and ready for use, by purging water through the grouphead to make sure everything is hot.
Weigh the coffee grounds using a scale. A standard single espresso shot usually requires around 20 grams of coffee grounds.
Note: ground coffee should be at a consistency similar to confectioner’s sugar. For best results, order our whole bean coffee and grind to size. If you are unable to do this, order the espresso grind.

Place the portafilter on a stable surface and add the freshly ground coffee into it. Ensure the coffee is evenly distributed.
It is important to ensure the coffee is level in the portafilter. Use a tamper to press down evenly on the coffee grounds in the portafilter. Apply firm, even pressure to create a level and compact coffee puck.

Insert the portafilter into the espresso machine's group head and lock it in place. Start the extraction process. The ideal shot time for a single espresso is typically around 25–30 seconds. Adjust the grind size if necessary to achieve this.
A properly brewed espresso shot should have a rich, dark crema on top and fill your espresso cup with about 30ml of liquid.
